At a minimum...

The following are the State and District minimum requirements all students must have completed with a "D-" or better to earn a high school diploma. Students who do not meet these requirements will not earn their high school diploma.

History/Social Science

  • World History* or AP Euro - 1 year (usually 10th grade)
  • U.S. History* - 1 year (usually 11th grade)
  • Economics - 1 semester (usually 12th grade)
  • Government - 1 semester (usually 12th grade)

English

  • Language Arts 1* - 1 year (usually 9th grade)
  • Language Arts 2* - 1 year (usually 10th grade)
  • Language Arts 3* - 1 year (usually 11th grade)
  • Language Arts 4*, ERWC* - 1 year (usually 12th grade)
  • The two-period course combination of ELD 1/English 1 and ELD 2/English 2 may be used to satisfy ten (10) credits each of the language arts requirement. Students who are enrolled in ELD 3 must also take the appropriate grade level language arts course (i.e., Language Arts 1, 2, 3, or 4)in order to satisfy the language arts course requirement.

Mathematics

  • Integrated Math 1* - 1 year (usually 9th grade)
  • Integrated Math 2* - 1 year (usually 10th grade)
  • Students who complete the Algebra 1 requirement in intermediate school will meet the Algebra 1 requirement for graduation but will not receive high school mathematics course credit (Education Code 51224.5).
  • (Add one more year to be "a-g"!)

Science

  • Biological Science (take Biology to meet "a-g")* - 1 year (usually 9th grade)
  • Physical Science (take Chemistry to meet "a-g")* - 1 year (usually 10th grade)
  • (Add one more year - usually Physics - to be "a-g"!)
​*Also meets "a-g"

World Language or Fine Art

  • World Language (must be the same language both semesters)* or Fine Art* - 1 year
  • (Take 3 years of World Language and Fine Art to meet "a-g" requirements!)
​*Also meets "a-g"

Physical Education

  • Physical Education, Marching Band, or JROTC - 2 years (usually 9th and 10th grade) 

Electives

  • Any additional electives to meet the 220 credit requirement needed to graduate.
